The Primal Age is a time of foggy myth and oral tradition, passed down for ages before the advent of the written word or even sedentary life. It covers the period between the creation of the world until the entry into the world of the Dark Fiend. Primary knowledge of the period is essentially non-existant, as writing had not yet passed into the hands of of the goodly races, nor had urbanity or, in general, agriculture. Almost all knowledge of the period that did find its way into writing has been destroyed by the destructive wars that have defined the Mainland's history.

It is generally seen as a time of idyll and peace, when all of the elements of creation functioned in perfect balance and the Eight Makers watched passively from their celestial halls. In addition to the power of the Eight, the land was still ripe with primal spirits and other great beasts, including the original and powerful true dragons.
