A system of savage, everlasting storms that blow westerly across the ocean, fed from the regular squalls and hurricanes from the Great Eastern Ocean, forced northward into the Belt Ocean by the Barrier Islands off the coast of Gildenhome. Travel through these storms is essentially impossible, making travel between the northern and southern hemispheres nonexistent in recorded history.
