The Heist: Stage 1

  • Thirty minutes of time for the heist: A contact will meet at a particular location. They will wait ten minutes and then leave.
  • They drop in, unlock the doors. The book isn't where it was, and they have to look for it, which takes extra time. Bobwhite finds with three minutes to spare, hands it off to Beldon who jets out.
    • Bobwhite hangs behind to lock any extra doors and tidy up, ready to re-lock when Beldon comes back.
    • Beldon goes to meeting place to see a guy walking away. He drops down in front on Ricky Bobby. The guy says nothing and walks away, starting to speed up.
    • Beldon intercepts and starts talking. The guy says nothing for a bit, then "You talk too much" just as Four and Banner are catching up.
    • Beldon puts the book on the floor. Guy impatiently picks it up and immediately disappears.
    • About half an hour later, he comes back, puts the book down, turns around, and leaves.
  • Beldon brings the book back, everything is locked back up. They appear to have executed stage 1.

Race Day

  • It's the 29th, so it's Race Day again.
  • They get a delivery. It's a scroll of augury with an attached note: "Make good decisions!"
  • They spend the day trying to hype it up, but not really getting any engagement.
  • There's a pretty wild thunderstorm for a while in the middle of the day, which ends up relevant later.
  • Evening comes, and it's race-time.
    • They buy in at the top bracket with all the money they have left.
    • The course is muddy and dangerous. In one of the lower brackets there were even serious injuries.
    • The race starts off almost immediately with two of the racers eating shit. They stay significantly behind the rest of the race.
    • Redd and Beldon keep fairly tight throughout the lap. They both stumble right before the last straightaway, but not enough for the people trailing behind to catch up.
    • In the end, Beldon wins by a nose!
    • Their purse is 85 gp above their buy-in. They're again slightly less poor.

  • Celebrations are in order. Bobwhite gets lost in a haze of beer, but his family's got his back.
  • Another race coming on the 31st. The boys work on hyping it up simultaneously with Redd. Bobwhite stays home hungover as shit.
  • Approached by someone, they're invited to dinner by someone who'd "really love to have you seen eating at their restaurant". Augury gives the "signs point to yes", so they accept.
  • It's very tasty.
  • At the end, everything is cleared and curtains are drawn. Five cups of coffee are poured for four people, and the waiter leaves.
  • A person the Boys don't recognize comes in with a book that looks identical to the registry they've stolen. He plops it on the table, says, "Shall we get down to business?", and the session ends.
