Early Life

Raised by a family of relatively poor urban merchants, Bernadette grew up in a house packed with cousins, aunts, and uncles, all in the spice-trading business. Lots of patched dresses, hand-me-downs, and careful food portioning.

...until a plague killed off all of the main line of a title, leaving the cadet branch--led by her mother--to inherit the lands, other assets, and title. She is the only child of her parents to survive to adulthood.

To keep herself occupied, she enjoys casually ruining the lives of corrupt nobles, without them being able to place the blame at her feet. Every case is its own delightful puzzle, and research often involves delicious meals in grand manors. Occasionally it involves seeking out people on the run in order to extract evidence from them...
