Also known as the "Alchemist of Odessa," Kaine (the Elder) was cunning and powerful wizard who dominated Odessan politics during the second half of the 14th century. He was the primary architect of the occupation of western Alexia, the siege and subsequent sacking of Wydmoor, and the reconstruction of the Odessan navy.

Betrayed by his son, Hedifax Kaine (the Younger), the elder Kaine was assassinated in 140X FI by a diverse group of unknown conspirators.
