Red Retch
A disease of the lungs contracted by red iron miners. Since its incidence is unique to that substance, almost all sufferers are from the Iros Forge environs, home of most of the Mainland's red iron mining activity. It is characterized by tuberculosis-like long retches and heaves that persist for years, worsening and eventually becoming productive of black, clotted blood with hardened deposits in suspension. Eventually, this characteristic substance ceases being produced solely in the lungs, and spreads to the broader circulatory system. Once this happens, death comes quickly, as the blood in the sufferer's body hardens within their veins and ceases its flow. The magical nature of red iron prevents its cure by remove disease or the like, and if cure does exist, it is not known to the communities that suffer from the malady.
