Handelat was by treaty a Fresian city, although with a good deal of Alexian, Flannari, and even Dwarven influences. As the gateway to the former Fresian heartland, it is a major center of commerce as well as a well-fortified free city whose distance from Achenveltd and the extreme danger of the lands between it and the capital ensure little direct control. It was occupied by Gildenhome forces during the Calamity and a large Dwarven enclave remains.
