Kirunmezum is a Dwarven beverage made from a blend of dried, roasted, then ground mushrooms. That powder is then blended into boiling water and consumed as close to boiling as possible to produce a thick brew with strong salt, smoke, and sulfur flavors which most peoples other than Dwarves find technically edible though not palatable.
While not usually consumed daily, it is widely held as a healthy and healing non-magical folk remedy for many ailments and prevention of illness so most Gilden homes as well as Dwarven trading enclaves will always have it on hand. It is considered by many to be the first step in treating most illnesses and injuries to which even the stout and resilient Dwarves must sometimes succumb. A common Gilden idiom for Dwarven stubbornness and toughness would be translated as "grudgingly accepting kirunmezum when your arm was ripped off". Dwarves of all ages drink kirunmezum, but it is especially associated with children and the elderly who often have it forced upon them by well-meaning caregivers.
Most of the major Mountainhomes have regional variations on some of the minor flavoring mushrooms, but medicinal Dwarven Red Antler mushrooms always make up most of the mix.
