Level Plans

(preferred order, but alternatively rushing Barbarian 5 before Rogue levels may be better depending on party makeup (skills vs HP etc))

  • Level 3: Rogue 2: Cunning Action
  • Level 4: Rogue 3: Sneak Attack to 2d6, Aim, Soulknife - psi die for skills, telepathic comms, d6 psychic blades
  • Level 5: Rogue 4: Prof +1, Feat - CON ASI (ditch armor unless halfplate or magic available),
  • Level 6: Barbarian 2: Danger Sense (works well with Shield Master's evasion-like clause), Reckless Attack
  • Level 7: Barbarian 3: 3 Rages/day, Wild Magic - magic detection, magic surges on Rage,
  • Level 8: Barbarian 4: Feat - Mobile or CON ASI,
  • Level 9: Barbarian 5: Prof +1, Extra Attack, Fast Movement
    • 96 hp (if CON ASI chosen) while still having 18 or higher AC even with no armor besides a shield, 2 attacks one of which should frequently get +2d6 sneak attack plus. 50' movement (if Mobile taken at 8) with cunning action and skirmisher lets you move up to 125' per round while still getting to attack and avoiding most opportunity attacks.
  • Beyond: mostly Rogue to advance sneak attack damage, probably try to get Barbarian 6 at some point for bless-lite/spell-slot-regenerating power
  • Feats in likely order: Level 5-CON ASI, Level 8-Mobile, then probably just CON and STR ASIs.

Tactics

  • same basic idea as previous creation Shamyl Afra Bahrbelama's Character Sheet with different subclasses
  • Always be bashing: Always try to attack then use shield master bonus action to knock prone, especially once extra attack is available to generate advantage and sneak attack damage. High strength and athletics expertise to make sure it frequently works. Can also use Rage for advantage on athletics roll, but can not start raging and bash on same round as both are bonus actions. Can eventually also use reckless attack for attack advantage and cunning action disengage to stay mobile and avoid enemies. Decent AC and HP to soak damage if needed.
  • Finesse vs strength: sneak attack requires finesse or ranged weapons, but does not require those attacks to use DEX so you can still use rage and reckless attack with rapier or psychic blade attacks as long as you're using STR. psi blades can be thrown with STR as well, including off-hand when not wearing a shield
