In most part of the mainland, this is an upbeat and lively festival characterized by outdoor picnics and activities, rites and rituals to promote a successful harvest, and activities designed to "renew" the spirit after the long winter season.
In most part of the mainland, this is an humble and introspective festival characterized acts of charity, contrition, forgiveness towards family and neighbors. In many places, cleaning up after the destruction of New Year's is part of the contrition rites.
