* The party trundles through the newly ensnowed Tepest.&lt;br /&gt;
** Elian&#039;s expert tracking and [[Madrin]] magic makes the experience endurable, despite the difficulty.&lt;br /&gt;
** As they travel, Madrin adds a new name, Helongum, which she begins calling herself by.&lt;br /&gt;
** Some decisions are made based on the party&#039;s extremely accurate map, and they eventually make it back to the Nobody&#039;s Inn.&lt;br /&gt;

You spend some time by the fire warming up. Some small measure of your weariness dissipates.&lt;br /&gt;
Bryonna serves root tea to the group.&lt;br /&gt;
Whip: How ya been Bry&lt;br /&gt;
Bern&#039;s Lost Daughter sips her tea.&lt;br /&gt;
Helongum: We need to get home, can we get back to that cave we came in from&lt;br /&gt;
Helongum turns to Bern&#039;s daughter&lt;br /&gt;
Helongum: And where is home for you? Once we get back to the world as you know it.&lt;br /&gt;
Bryonna: Oh, I don&#039;t have many travelers, but you&#039;ll have to be more specific. Are you talking about my old lover? He came from distant lands.&lt;br /&gt;
Bryonna: Or the outsider who passed through this way more recently?&lt;br /&gt;
Bryonna: Ohhh, what was his name?&lt;br /&gt;
Bryonna tilts her skull in thought.&lt;br /&gt;
Bern&#039;s Lost Daughter is disengaged and lost in thought.&lt;br /&gt;
Bryonna: Firan Zal’honan, I think!&lt;br /&gt;
Bryonna: That was it. An outsider&#039;s name for sure. A travelling scholar, he said.&lt;br /&gt;
Bryonna: Visited a great many realms, so he claimed. I never saw him again, so maybe he moved on. Or died. Lots of folks die.&lt;br /&gt;
Bryonna: most of em, actually.&lt;br /&gt;
Helongum: Did he say anything about how he visited those realms?&lt;br /&gt;
Bryonna: Who, Firan? Why yes ma&#039;am he did.&lt;br /&gt;
Bryonna: He said he&#039;d done it a slew of times&lt;br /&gt;
Helongum pulls out a notebook&lt;br /&gt;
Bryonna: Said it was something of a leap of faith, which sure seems uncertain to me, but that&#039;s what he said.&lt;br /&gt;
Bryonna: All&#039;s ya gotta do, he said, is hold a special token from some a nearby realm and head off into the fog.&lt;br /&gt;
Bryonna: Now, my momma always said that folks who got lost in the fog got lost forever, but maybe with a token it&#039;s easier to find a path. He sure talked about a lot of other lands I&#039;d never heard of.&lt;br /&gt;
Bryonna: Darkon....Dementilu.... Barovia...&lt;br /&gt;
Whip: And that boyfriend you talked about, was that kind of the same story?&lt;br /&gt;
Whip: Bet he was a real looker get a catch like you, Bry&lt;br /&gt;
Bryonna: To be honest, don&#039;t really know. We never really talked about it. Sometimes folks just... appear... from the fog, too.&lt;br /&gt;
Bryonna: Zal’honan said that, for whatever reasons, these tokens end up littering the realms. Either as a result of past travelers, or perhaps a trick of the universe.&lt;br /&gt;
Bryonna: he often talked about the world as if it was .... not alive but... thoughtful and deliberate, but not in a kind way.&lt;br /&gt;
Helongum: Did the traveller, Firan, say anything about these tokens? If it was just a physical thing or if there was, magic about them?&lt;br /&gt;
Bryonna: He said that they&#039;d be mundane, not magical.&lt;br /&gt;
Bryonna: I believe he said the token that got him here was a crown of white amelias.&lt;br /&gt;
Bryonna: I think Ivan had a coin from his realm featuring some lost king.&lt;br /&gt;
Bryonna: that carnival ticket sounds like it might be one. Never heard of the The Carnival before. Probably you&#039;ve found some others in your travels.&lt;br /&gt;
Bryonna: So, it seems to me from talkin to him, these would be tokens that had some sort of &#039;symbolic resonance&#039; with the home realm. The World, he&#039;d like to say, likes to invert expectations.&lt;br /&gt;
Bryonna: The more mundane the more likely.&lt;br /&gt;
Bryonna: I don&#039;t think you&#039;re getting it, sweetheart.&lt;br /&gt;
Bryonna: It&#039;s not just &amp;quot;any random item&amp;quot; from the other realm. He was flummoxed, too. The more you want to set rules on the world, he said, the shiftier it got.&lt;br /&gt;
Helongum: Did he ever travel with other people?&lt;br /&gt;
Bryonna: Well, you folks look plumb exhausted. Feel free to stay here the night if you want. hopefully this storm will have passed by then.&lt;br /&gt;
Bryonna: Who? Firan? I don&#039;t think so. Didn&#039;t really get much about his backstory he mostly talked about his realmwalking&lt;br /&gt;
Bryonna: He kept talking about &amp;quot;escape&amp;quot; which sounds to be like a man chasin&#039; death, but perhaps he&#039;s right and the world obeys metaphors not laws.&lt;br /&gt;
Bryonna: Oh, that might also be one. That sure seems weird and resonant.&lt;br /&gt;

* They travel about half a day toward the edge of the realm. The icy rain chills everyone to the bone.&lt;br /&gt;
* Reaching the edge, they contemplate only for a moment before stepping off into the mist.&lt;br /&gt;
* The fog changes quickly -- too quickly -- shifting immediately into a humid, warm soup. As it clears, they are already sweating from the scorching heat of summer.&lt;br /&gt;

* The party doesn&#039;t like the look of what&#039;s ahead of them, and rolls the dice a second time, choosing the jar of goo.&lt;br /&gt;
* This time, the air becomes tinted with the smell of ammonia.&lt;br /&gt;

&lt;div&gt;==The Green Knight&#039;s Defeat==&lt;br /&gt;
* The skirmish is harrowing. The redcaps tear handily into Moose-Elian and cause his form to expire once, doing significant damage to his normal form. Cantrips and healing from Joana and Madrin support him, and the three in concert are able to persevere. One at a time, the redcaps are defeated and fall into the mists below.&lt;br /&gt;
* Meanwhile, Whip and Bern face off against the knight, who continues to drag Bern away. Whip stays engaged--Bern is able to escape the vines and steps back to get some licks in. The knight tries to compel her close again, but fails, and so he turns to Whip, managing to enclose him in his vines. As the knight maneuvers to finish him off, Whip is able to desperately reach into an opening and, with a THUNK, knock him solidly on the head through a gap in his armor. He goes down.&lt;br /&gt;
* Whip pulls himself out of the still-clinging vines.&lt;br /&gt;
* He doesn&#039;t want to actively kill the knight, dimly recalling from childhood stories that the consequences for doing so among the Fae might be unpredictable. Given the liminal status of the place they&#039;re in, though, the group fears that leaving him in it might be tantamount to the same thing, so they drag him along.&lt;br /&gt;
* They&#039;re able to do so until they reach another &amp;quot;firefly&amp;quot; curtain. Elian charges through, but the rest pause with a conundrum: If they drag the knight through, the damage from the &amp;quot;fireflies&amp;quot; will certainly kill him. Whip is willing to leave him behind, but Joana is willing to sacrifice a &#039;&#039;potion of healing&#039;&#039; to see if there is an alternative.&lt;br /&gt;
** But, the knight immediately attacks upon regaining consciousness. Whip knocks him out again and walks through the &amp;quot;fireflies&amp;quot;, and everyone else follows.&lt;br /&gt;

* They again enter fog and walk for quite a while. How long, exactly, nobody can know.&lt;br /&gt;
** Madrin tries to measure it with a makeshift hourglass, but no matter how much sand falls from one bulb into another, it never seems to actually lead to any more sand changing bulbs.&lt;br /&gt;
** Hours? Weeks? Millenia? later, a light appears before them. As they continue walking, it eventually realizes the shape of an opening. They are in a cavern, their surroundings solid again.&lt;br /&gt;
** The makeshift hourglass is now working more normally.&lt;br /&gt;
** The group rests for a bit, then leaves into a new world.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
==Into the land of the Fae==&lt;br /&gt;
* They exit the cavern into a valley. Fog-shrouded mountains, imposing and impenetrable, line all sides but one direction, which they arbitrarily decide is &amp;quot;South&amp;quot;. Gurgling water sounds from the distance, but is not visible.&lt;br /&gt;
** Once again, the plants here are unknown to Elian.&lt;br /&gt;

** Bern notices a group of fungi surrounded by still corpses. The party gives this a wide berth.&lt;br /&gt;
* Seeing no other obvious direction to go, they head &amp;quot;South&amp;quot;.&lt;br /&gt;
** They eventually come upon a river&#039;s course, and they follow it.&lt;br /&gt;
** An hour of walking, and they are suddenly set upon with the weight of all the traveling they&#039;ve done up to now (mechanically: as if this was the first hour of a forced march). They set up a [https://roll20.net/compendium/dnd5e/Tiny%20Hut#content hut] and rest.&lt;br /&gt;
** When they awaken, a small building has joined them. No smoke rises from its chimney. Opposite that chimney is a door (unlocked), and on another side is a cellar door (padlocked).&lt;br /&gt;
** They approach cautiously and knock. There is no answer.&lt;br /&gt;
** Bern (still voluntarily gagged) gives a &amp;quot;fuck this&amp;quot; gesture and starts walking off. The group shrugs and follows.&lt;br /&gt;

* They walk further still, seeking the town of Viktal mentioned by [[Anise]].&lt;br /&gt;
* The river course winds a bit, then joins another river coming from the &amp;quot;South&amp;quot;. They join and head &amp;quot;Southwest&amp;quot;. The group opts to continue downstream.&lt;br /&gt;
* Around mid-afternoon, they come across another tributary,  with the main river course bending first &amp;quot;North&amp;quot;, then sharply &amp;quot;West&amp;quot;. All of this occurs within site of a tall bluff, atop which there is a small, walled village.&lt;br /&gt;
* There is, again, no smoke.&lt;br /&gt;
* They approach cautiously. Silence greets them.&lt;br /&gt;
** A sign, in dramatic disrepair, seems to indicate this place is called &amp;quot;Kellee&amp;quot;&lt;br /&gt;
* They enter the closest building, which happens to be a brewery.&lt;br /&gt;
** The floor is completely coated in stains that are clearly blood. The blood, and everything else, seems to have been neglected for quite a while--notably (to Whip), the contents of any unopened bottle has evaporated to a gunky residue, and all the corks are brittle and crumble to the touch.&lt;br /&gt;
* They move on to a nearby building, which appears to be a tavern.&lt;br /&gt;
** The same sort of scene greets them, but here they do find a couple of things of interest: a logbook, a maul, and a safe.&lt;br /&gt;
** The book has guest entries dated from FI 1213. Notably, those dates are by Alexandrian calendar notation, and the entries are in Fresian.&lt;br /&gt;
** Bern will not touch the safe, but Whip willingly subs in. He &#039;&#039;nearly&#039;&#039; breaks a tool in its lock, but a stroke of (magical) inspiration saves him at the last moment, and it pops open.&lt;br /&gt;
*** 160 gp&lt;br /&gt;
*** An unbreakable jar filled with glowing liquid&lt;br /&gt;
*** A scroll covered in fine writing (magical)&lt;br /&gt;
*** A potion (magical)&lt;br /&gt;
*** A crown of dried camellia petals&lt;br /&gt;
*** A small mirror set in a painted wooden frame&lt;br /&gt;
*** A garish, colorful ticket: &amp;quot;THE CARNIVAL OF WONDERS - ADMIT ONE&amp;quot;&lt;br /&gt;
** The items have clearly been there for some time. Rather than leave it to rot, the group divvies it up, save Bern, who refuses to touch any of it.&lt;br /&gt;
* They resolve to head toward the administrative center to see if they can find any more clues. Session ends.&lt;br /&gt;

The team takes a short rest to heal up and then resolves to hunt down the escapees. Quynh claims to have a reputation to uphold.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Cinder leads the tracking party off and follows the trail until the light starts to fade. It seems the goblins are following a normal game trail. The party makes camp and figures out a watch order. Before tucking in, Quynh sets a hunting trap on the path towards the camp.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
In the late hours of the night, Thola and Cinder are keeping watch when they hear some rustling a movement near camp. It is a bear. The bear is moving about with some sort of purpose, but doesn&#039;t come nearer the campsite or engage the party so we return to sleep. In the morning we find that the bear has systematically destroyed all the tracks in a few miles.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The morning comes with that realization and some reflection on strategy occurs. The party decides to head back towards the trade route area, back towards where we fought the goblins. On the way, Cinder tries to communicate with a raven but it doesn&#039;t seem to understand.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The party heads back to town and scatters to check for any new information. It take a little group effort, but Quynh&#039;s contact suggests talking with local hermits and it turns out Wolf knows of a rural tinkerer and merchant by the name of &amp;quot;P-D&amp;quot; Pete, who is known to the local &amp;quot;hermit community.&amp;quot; He lives in an old building a day and a half to the south.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
==Back to the Forest==&lt;br /&gt;
The party gets a head start on the trip and camps in the wilderness. The next day they start into the deeper wilderness and make pretty slow going through the wild growth. Once again night falls and the party makes camp. On the next day the march was interrupted by orcs throwing javelins. Apparently raiders from a local Ulan tribe, they were attracted by the ruckus of the party&#039;s travel through the brush and established themselves in an opportunistic ambush. The first one delt a near fatal blow to Tim, Cinder&#039;s riding dog. The orcs having covered themselves in mud were quite well disguised.&lt;br /&gt;

The battle is bloody and hard fought. Quynh climbs onto a rock and goes to work with her crossbow. Cinder moves in to attack with his longsword. Gorra moves to to intercept a flanking orc. Wolf moves up next to Cinder and attacks with a threat to the orcs. Cinder finishes off the orc next to him, but goes down to javelin. The orc Gorra went to intercept lands a single hit that knocks her out. Thola tosses out spell damage. Wolf lays a healing hand on Cinder and moves up to a new line of battle. Quynh jumps down from her perch to defend Gorra and stabs the orc with her dagger. Cinder gets back up and rushes Another orc swings in behind Wolf and sets up flanking. Thola, Cinder, and Wolf manage to finish off one of the Orcs and Wolf swings around on the other one to set up flanking for Cinder.&lt;br /&gt;

The bodies are looted for silver and weaponry and then piled to burn.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Thola offers up a double or nothing roll for her share of the loot, and Wolf take her up on it. Thola loses her 6sp.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
==A cabin in the woods==&lt;br /&gt;
The party moves on and finds a very old cabin in a maintained section of forest. Outside of the cabin is a small campsite with a single bedroll recently used. No sign of the occupant, although the camp seemed to have been occupied by a light framed, barefooted human. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Approaching the cabin, the door has been knocked out and there are signs of a fight. A few dead orcs are found inside. (A dead and burnt orc lays inside. One with a completely missing arm as well). The first orc has been killed by some sort of scorching blast to the chest. Thola cannot tell if the scorching is arcane or mundane, but she also finds the scorched remains of plant fibers in the area. Wolf recognizes them as a local species of heavy reed common in the Ulan marshlands. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The armless orc appears to have had his arm ripped off completely, while the area of the tear also held signs of caustic burning, which Thola recognizes as characteristic of acid burns. The blood spray from the torn arm covers the walls and floor, but the chest itself is totally free of any bloodstains.  &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Thola investigates a chest in the study but decides not to open it after consulting the dice. Cinder found a trail outside, indicating someone was dragged away by a half dozen humanoids. Gorra gives Quynh guidance and Quynh investigates the findings outside.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Thola investigates the area for magical effects and she, Quynh, and Gorra investigate the study. Wolf inspects the dead orcs to try to see if they are from the same group that ambushed them earlier, but is unsuccessful. Cinder continues to inspect the area around the cabin.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;

The party resolves to have Wolf try to pry the chest open with a javelin. When he does it comes to life and snaps the javelin in half. Quynh tells everyone not to get too close to it and gets a solid hit on it with her crossbow. Both Wolf and Thola get in attacks and retreat out of the room. Gorra moves up and gets ready to blast it when it comes around the corner, which it promptly does. The mimic somehow manages to dodge her attack and then attacks Wolf. It misses a pair of attacks at Wolf. Quynh&#039;s next shot takes advantage of Thola&#039;s previous guiding bolt and the mimic goes down! (everyone gains enough xp to level to 2)&lt;br /&gt;

After taking a short rest the party heads out into the evening to try to follow the tracks and get the lead. However after an hour or so the party is dragging and visibility is poor. The decision is made to stop and rest. Everyone levels to 2!&lt;br /&gt;

Everyone is doing their thing in [[Handlestadt]] when by some method or another they are propositioned by an enterprising woman by the name of Quynh. Quynh has been commissioned by an unnamed civic organization to undertake an errand of local importance, for which the group is willing to pay between 250-500 GP, with the outside chance of a windfall of much more. Quynh has intentionally been instructed to recruit a party that is diverse enough to operate in all of the areas of Handlestadt to maximize opportunities in case of a reputation boost with the group&#039;s success.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
There have been attacks on caravans fitting the pattern of a sudden and devastating owlbear attack followed by a murder-and-looting filled, opportunistic goblin raid. Each with their own motivation, the group assembles to join Quynh&#039;s quest to stop the attacks and capture the owlbear.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Plans are made.&amp;lt;br /&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
The prices of poisons, potions, and scrolls are investigated and coffers found lacking. A sleep scroll would cost about 150 gold, while the poison options range from 300-500 gp. All are readily available.... for the coin. Which seems to come up short, even with the civil organizations per diem.&amp;lt;br /&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
Eventually the group opts for some traps (5 gp each) and nets (1 gp each) and the hope that we might find better fortune before the fateful run in with the owlbear.&amp;lt;br /&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
They investigate the marketplace for anyone who might have encountered the goblin raiders.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;lt;i&amp;gt;Some poking around the marketplace reveals GRANNET WILHELM, whose cousin was lost to a similar raid two or three days back. A cowardly coward by the name of SOMETHING witnessed a wagon sized monster &amp;quot;covered in armor made of garbage&amp;quot; crashed into their small caravan and caused havok before running off into the wilds. About ten or twenty minutes later, the shocked survivors were beset by a goblin band while they were recovering. The cowardly coward never came down, and so watched the goblins ambush and murder the caravanners. Since Grannet did not want to be hanged for murder, he convinced the cowardly coward to reveal the location of his cousin&#039;s body and Grannet let the man go with a strong encouragement to leave town. &amp;lt;/i&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Supplied and encouraged, the group sets out in the morning. Cinder proves to be a tremendous outdoorsgnome and his guidance and tracking skills quickly come to the location of the previous attack.&lt;br /&gt;

===Goblin Ambush===&lt;br /&gt;
Goblins have set up an ambush, but two of the party notice, sound the alarm, and are able to fire off surprise actions. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The wooded area sets the stage for an early ranged skirmish as the two groups approach using the trees as cover. A bloody melee follows that sees the heroes triumphant.&lt;br /&gt;

Cinder charges in on Tim, but finds himself on the ground. Quynh also falls to gobin arrows. &lt;br /&gt;

The momentum shift allows the party to move into position and finish the job with a quick back and forth between arrows on one side and crossbows and sacred flame on the other.&lt;br /&gt;

Gorra is able to Healing Word each up before any initiative is lost while firing off a pair of successful crossbow shots, dropping one goblin while wounding another. Thola reveals her healing power, as well, to keep the party in the fight. Through their efforts, the group succeeds in killing 6 of the 8 goblins and chasing off the other 2. (Thola exploding totally one in a critical-burst of holy fire was definitely incentive for them not to be sticking around)&lt;br /&gt;

===A Night Interrupted===&lt;br /&gt;
The night&#039;s rest was interrupted by a loud explosion set off by an electrical blast that left a flame and foul smelling smoke behind.&lt;br /&gt;
A voice in the darkness implored us to put down our weapons.&lt;br /&gt;
It turns out to be a naked woodsperson named Bashir or &amp;quot;Batshit&amp;quot; to his friends. He&#039;s covered in tattoos, quite filthy, and smells of excrement. He&#039;s an acquaintance and dragon chess partner of PD&#039;s and is willing to put the word out to the dervish community to help find the goblins we are after. He also hands over a large &amp;quot;problem solver&amp;quot; which he thinks might help us get PD back if we get into a pinch.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
===Tracking the Orcs===&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The next morning we head out on the tracks of the orcs led by Cinder&#039;s dog Tim. The first day of tracking finds us not gaining any ground on the small party of orcs. The party decides to push on into the night and gets two more hours of progress before Thola&#039;s exhaustion has reached the point where she can no longer move at her full speed an the party stops to rest.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The next day the party strikes out at an increased pace, but at the higher speed Tim and Cinder miss spotting a trap that hoists them up into the air in a net. A clattering of bells and noises accompanies the springing of the trap.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
===Traps!===&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The party moves to either help or be on the lookout. Cinder cuts himself and Tim out of the net, but Tim is knocked out by the fall. Quynh who was up in the tree to cut them down looks up and sees something and scampers off drawing weapon and taking cover. Wolf seeing that tosses a shield of faith on Quynh and moves forward also drawing weapons. The rest of the party moves up similarly and Thola coming in last gets eyes on an ogre dervish and blasts it with eldritch energy. The ogre moves up and skewers Thola with a critical javelin throw.&lt;br /&gt;

Wolf jumps in to prevent the ogre from closing on Thola and Quynh loses a crossbow attack. Wolf gets a cut in with his axe, but the ogre just grins. Gorra jumps out and says, &amp;quot;Hey! Hey! Do you know PD? Likes to play dragonchess? Or his friend covered in shit?&amp;quot; Cinder moves up and misses a lance attack. Thola tosses another eldrich blast, landing some damage on the ogre, and uses a bonus action to heal herself with healing light.&lt;br /&gt;

The ogre steps in and tries to hit Wolf, but Cinder&#039;s shield gets in the way.&lt;br /&gt;

Quynh puts down her crossbow. Wolf hesitates to see what the ogre will do. Gorra continues her discussion with the ogre, &amp;quot;The orcs took Pete. You wanna help Pete?&amp;quot;&lt;br /&gt;

Cinder having none of this talking with ogres cries out, &amp;quot;He&#039;s an ogre!&amp;quot; and attacks with a longsword dealing a cut to the ogre.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The Ogre shouts back, &amp;quot;YOU LIE! YOU SAY YOU TALK AND THEN HIT!&amp;quot;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
At the swing from the ogre, Thola looses another eldritch blast scorching the ogre.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;

The party, weapons back up, attacks with redoubled effort. Quynh hits with a very disapproving sneak attack. Cinder hits with his longsword.&lt;br /&gt;

Gorra takes another hit from the ogre despite Cinder&#039;s attempt to block for her and she falls down. Quynh&#039;s next bolt puts down the ogre right through its eye. Wolf vengefully slits its throat.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The party heals themselves up and gets a lesson on ogres from Cinder.&lt;br /&gt;
Thola takes a moment to cast a ritual and acquires a new companion, an owl.&lt;br /&gt;
With a short investigation the party find a buried sack with some salted meat, gold, and two small vials of liquid in it.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Wolf tries to give his share to Thola, but instead they roll on it and Wolf wins again.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
After a much needed rest, Thola uses detect magic to help determine the potions are potions of healing. Cinder and Quynh each take one.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
===Back to Our Regularly Scheduled Rescue===&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
We set out again at a fast pace and near sunset the orc have multiplied. We forced march into the night and after two extra hours both Wolf and Gorra are starting to feel the effects of exhaustion. The tracks however, are now very fresh and the sound of a man crying can be heard in the woods up ahead. It sounds like the orcs are about a 100 yards ahead.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Thola gives Quynh a pebble enchanted with light which Quynh hides in her pocket. Thola also sends her owl up ahead to scout the position of the orcs. It sees 6 orcs with PD tied to a log being carried between two of them.&lt;br /&gt;

The party approaches the orcs, but attempts at stealth are no successful. As soon as the orcs notice they turn and rush at us with javelin tosses. Cinder takes two heavy hits, but is still up. the party moves in to engage and the party gets some ranged damage in. Cinder moves up to lance an ogre. Two ogres in the rear with longbows miss their shots. Next the other orcs move towards melee and Wolf gets hit with a critical and a regular axe hit. He looks like he&#039;s going to go down, but doesn&#039;t.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Gorra shoots at the orc near her and drops a healing word on Wolf. Thola misses a blast on a orc and drops healing on Wolf via her owl familiar. Wolf misses his attack. Quynh doesn&#039;t and gets a sneak attack that takes out one of the orcs. Cinder rides across the field and takes out another orc with his lance. The archer orcs move up and fire, one hit Cinder badly and the other missed Wolf. The two in melee on Wolf take swings at him, one hits taking him back down to 1 and breaking his concentration and the other misses.&lt;br /&gt;

Gorra hits an orc with her crossbow and tosses another healing word on Wolf.&lt;br /&gt;
Thola drops one of the melee orcs with the combination of hex and eldritch blast.&lt;br /&gt;
Wolf misses.&lt;br /&gt;
Quynh hits with another sneak attack.&lt;br /&gt;
Cinder moves up next to Wolf to attack and misses, but his shield spares Wolf an arrow from one of the archers. The other archer misses. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Gorra moves and shoots hitting an orc with her crossbow.&lt;br /&gt;
Thola hits an orc with eldritch blast dropping it.&lt;br /&gt;
Wolf moves up and heals himself.&lt;br /&gt;
Quynh moves up, hides, and misses an attack on one of the ranged orcs.&lt;br /&gt;
Cinder rides up and misses.&lt;br /&gt;
The two Orcs move in and flank him, one hits with a blow that drops Cinder.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Gorra moves up and continues the crossbow attacks, hitting one of the orcs.&lt;br /&gt;
Thola moves up and continues the eldrich blast attacks, missing, and has her owl deliver a heal to Cinder, picking him up.&lt;br /&gt;
Wolf moves up to hielp Cinder and misses.&lt;br /&gt;
Quynh gets a sneak attack on one of the orcs.&lt;br /&gt;
Cinder gets up and mounted and Tim moves him to the other side of the orcs and attacks, but misses.&lt;br /&gt;
The orcs swing and miss.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Gorra continues the crossbow attacks and misses.&lt;br /&gt;
Thola misses with EB.&lt;br /&gt;
Wolf misses with his axe.&lt;br /&gt;
Quynh finally gets a hit in for the party and takes down an orc.&lt;br /&gt;
Cinder misses his attack on the last orc.&lt;br /&gt;
The last orc moves in on Cinder and puts him down again.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Gorra again with the crossbow, hits and does a bit of damage.&lt;br /&gt;
Thola drops guiding bolt on the remaining orc and her hex finish it off.&lt;br /&gt;
Wolf uses his remaining lay on hands to pick up Cinder.&lt;br /&gt;

The party unties Pete and recovers his papers. On the orcs they find greataxes, two longbows, 36 arrows and 39 silver pieces.&lt;br /&gt;

The team takes a short rest to heal up and then resolves to hunt down the escapees. Quynh claims to have a reputation to uphold.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Cinder leads the tracking party off and follows the trail until the light starts to fade. It seems the goblins are following a normal game trail. The party makes camp and figures out a watch order. Before tucking in, Quynh sets a hunting trap on the path towards the camp.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
In the late hours of the night, Thola and Cinder are keeping watch when they hear some rustling a movement near camp. It is a bear. The bear is moving about with some sort of purpose, but doesn&#039;t come nearer the campsite or engage the party so we return to sleep. In the morning we find that the bear has systematically destroyed all the tracks in a few miles.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The morning comes with that realization and some reflection on strategy occurs. The party decides to head back towards the trade route area, back towards where we fought the goblins. On the way, Cinder tries to communicate with a raven but it doesn&#039;t seem to understand.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The party heads back to town and scatters to check for any new information. It take a little group effort, but Quynh&#039;s contact suggests talking with local hermits and it turns out Wolf knows of a rural tinkerer and merchant by the name of &amp;quot;P-D&amp;quot; Pete, who is known to the local &amp;quot;hermit community.&amp;quot; He lives in an old building a day and a half to the south.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
==Back to the Forest==&lt;br /&gt;
The party gets a head start on the trip and camps in the wilderness. The next day they start into the deeper wilderness and make pretty slow going through the wild growth. Once again night falls and the party makes camp. On the next day the march was interrupted by orcs throwing javelins. Apparently raiders from a local Ulan tribe, they were attracted by the ruckus of the party&#039;s travel through the brush and established themselves in an opportunistic ambush. The first one delt a near fatal blow to Tim, Cinder&#039;s riding dog. The orcs having covered themselves in mud were quite well disguised.&lt;br /&gt;

The battle is bloody and hard fought. Quynh climbs onto a rock and goes to work with her crossbow. Cinder moves in to attack with his longsword. Gorra moves to to intercept a flanking orc. Wolf moves up next to Cinder and attacks with a threat to the orcs. Cinder finishes off the orc next to him, but goes down to javelin. The orc Gorra went to intercept lands a single hit that knocks her out. Thola tosses out spell damage. Wolf lays a healing hand on Cinder and moves up to a new line of battle. Quynh jumps down from her perch to defend Gorra and stabs the orc with her dagger. Cinder gets back up and rushes Another orc swings in behind Wolf and sets up flanking. Thola, Cinder, and Wolf manage to finish off one of the Orcs and Wolf swings around on the other one to set up flanking for Cinder.&lt;br /&gt;

The bodies are looted for silver and weaponry and then piled to burn.&lt;br /&gt;

Thola offers up a double or nothing roll for her share of the loot, and Wolf take her up on it. Thola loses her 6sp.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
==A cabin in the woods==&lt;br /&gt;
The party moves on and finds a very old cabin in a maintained section of forest. Outside of the cabin is a small campsite with a single bedroll recently used. No sign of the occupant, although the camp seemed to have been occupied by a light framed, barefooted human. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Approaching the cabin, the door has been knocked out and there are signs of a fight. A few dead orcs are found inside. (A dead and burnt orc lays inside. One with a completely missing arm as well). The first orc has been killed by some sort of scorching blast to the chest. Thola cannot tell if the scorching is arcane or mundane, but she also finds the scorched remains of plant fibers in the area. Wolf recognizes them as a local species of heavy reed common in the Ulan marshlands. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The armless orc appears to have had his arm ripped off completely, while the area of the tear also held signs of caustic burning, which Thola recognizes as characteristic of acid burns. The blood spray from the torn arm covers the walls and floor, but the chest itself is totally free of any bloodstains.  &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Thola investigates a chest in the study but decides not to open it after consulting the dice. Cinder found a trail outside, indicating someone was dragged away by a half dozen humanoids. Gorra gives Quynh guidance and Quynh investigates the findings outside.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Thola investigates the area for magical effects and she, Quynh, and Gorra investigate the study. Wolf inspects the dead orcs to try to see if they are from the same group that ambushed them earlier, but is unsuccessful. Cinder continues to inspect the area around the cabin.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;

The party resolves to have Wolf try to pry the chest open with a javelin. When he does it comes to life and snaps the javelin in half. Quynh tells everyone not to get too close to it and gets a solid hit on it with her crossbow. Both Wolf and Thola get in attacks and retreat out of the room. Gorra moves up and gets ready to blast it when it comes around the corner, which it promptly does. The mimic somehow manages to dodge her attack and then attacks Wolf. It misses a pair of attacks at Wolf. Quynh&#039;s next shot takes advantage of Thola&#039;s previous guiding bolt and the mimic goes down! (everyone gains enough xp to level to 2)&lt;br /&gt;

After taking a short rest the party heads out into the evening to try to follow the tracks and get the lead. However after an hour or so the party is dragging and visibility is poor. The decision is made to stop and rest. Everyone levels to 2!&lt;br /&gt;

Everyone is doing their thing in [[Handlestadt]] when by some method or another they are propositioned by an enterprising woman by the name of Quynh. Quynh has been commissioned by an unnamed civic organization to undertake an errand of local importance, for which the group is willing to pay between 250-500 GP, with the outside chance of a windfall of much more. Quynh has intentionally been instructed to recruit a party that is diverse enough to operate in all of the areas of Handlestadt to maximize opportunities in case of a reputation boost with the group&#039;s success.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
There have been attacks on caravans fitting the pattern of a sudden and devastating owlbear attack followed by a murder-and-looting filled, opportunistic goblin raid. Each with their own motivation, the group assembles to join Quynh&#039;s quest to stop the attacks and capture the owlbear.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Plans are made.&amp;lt;br /&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
The prices of poisons, potions, and scrolls are investigated and coffers found lacking. A sleep scroll would cost about 150 gold, while the poison options range from 300-500 gp. All are readily available.... for the coin. Which seems to come up short, even with the civil organizations per diem.&amp;lt;br /&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
Eventually the group opts for some traps (5 gp each) and nets (1 gp each) and the hope that we might find better fortune before the fateful run in with the owlbear.&amp;lt;br /&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
They investigate the marketplace for anyone who might have encountered the goblin raiders.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;lt;i&amp;gt;Some poking around the marketplace reveals GRANNET WILHELM, whose cousin was lost to a similar raid two or three days back. A cowardly coward by the name of SOMETHING witnessed a wagon sized monster &amp;quot;covered in armor made of garbage&amp;quot; crashed into their small caravan and caused havok before running off into the wilds. About ten or twenty minutes later, the shocked survivors were beset by a goblin band while they were recovering. The cowardly coward never came down, and so watched the goblins ambush and murder the caravanners. Since Grannet did not want to be hanged for murder, he convinced the cowardly coward to reveal the location of his cousin&#039;s body and Grannet let the man go with a strong encouragement to leave town. &amp;lt;/i&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Supplied and encouraged, the group sets out in the morning. Cinder proves to be a tremendous outdoorsgnome and his guidance and tracking skills quickly come to the location of the previous attack.&lt;br /&gt;

===Goblin Ambush===&lt;br /&gt;
Goblins have set up an ambush, but two of the party notice, sound the alarm, and are able to fire off surprise actions. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The wooded area sets the stage for an early ranged skirmish as the two groups approach using the trees as cover. A bloody melee follows that sees the heroes triumphant.&lt;br /&gt;

Cinder charges in on Tim, but finds himself on the ground. Quynh also falls to gobin arrows. &lt;br /&gt;

(Thola exploding totally one in a critical-burst of holy fire was definitely incentive for them not to be sticking around)&lt;br /&gt;
